Bisphenol A (BPA) in thermal paper – now prohibited substances

Due to the toxicity of bisphenol A to human body, the use of bisphenol A is currently restricted or prohibited in some kinds of products, including heat sensing circles.

Credit card receipts, bills, bills and other paper products are generally made of heat sensation, which is coated with chemical substances that react with dyes to form color when heated. Bisphenol A (BPA) is a commonly used chemical substance. In January 2020, the European Commission issued a regulation restricting the use of bisphenol A on thermal paper, which prohibits its reuse in the production of thermal paper rolls.

In December 2016, the European Joint Commission issued a new regulation restricting the sensitive use of bisphenol a (BPA) in Europe. After January 2, 2020, the EU prohibits the use of BPA thermal paper with a concentration above 0.02% (weight).

According to the scientific research report conducted by experts, BPA may have some significant effects on human health. It will destroy the characteristics that affect human reproductive ability, cause respiratory irritation and serious eye damage, and also cause allergic skin reactions. Bisphenol A is also recognized as an endocrine disruptor of human health, which is toxic to aquatic organisms.

After March 2019, Europe held a conference to study the financial and sustainable alternative materials of BPA on heat sensitive land. The initial meeting was held with the Belgian health and economic public authorities. With the support of ECHA, ECHA hosted a seminar on BPA alternatives in sensitive areas. The workshop will focus on available alternatives, advantages and related financial issues.

Our work on bisphenol A (BPA) on thermal paper at BPU in the UK

In BPC (UK), we constantly contact with the paper industry to study what environmental protection alternatives are available in the market

At present, there are several alternative products on the market, and we currently provide customers with BPA free or phenol free printing paper rolls as the standard.

At present, some available substitutes for invoice paper without BPA use elemental compounds and vitamin C, both of which do not contain BPA and BPS.

The market is growing rapidly. Please consult the latest development of thermal printing paper manufacturing and the products currently manufactured and circulated.
